SPE PAPER 161682-Sungai Lilin Field (Presented in SPE ADIPEC symposium in Abu Dhabi 2012)

Sugai Lilin oil field, located on the northeast flank of the South Sumatra basin. This field consists of two formation rock i.e., Talang Akar (sandstone, TAF) and Batu Raja (Limestone, BRF), both formations contain oil deposit with relatively small gas. Significant oil production rate of this field started in 1984, where the peak oil production rate reached 1800 bopd. The oil production drop very sharply to about 100 bopd with high water cut, in 2007. Using chemical solution, Huff n Puff approach has been implemented in ten (10) production wells in this Sungai Lilin Field. In this case, 3000 bbls of chemical solution with 2 % concentration was injected to each well, with 7 days of soaking. Production Decline is 30 bopd in every 3 months, it is equal which can be seen from green lines. After Huff & Puff Oil production increased from 150 bopd to almost 300 bopd. Decline will happen without Chemical Modifier and the production will be 40 bopd.

SPE PAPER 179830 MS-Reservoir in Oman (Presented in SPE international EOR presentation Muscat, Oman 2016) (Ekstra Heavy Oil)

The chemical technique developed has been applied to a heavy oil reservoir in Oman, which is a sandstone reservoir with medium viscosity heavy oil and high viscosity heavy oil. Coreflood result shown very interesting result, primary recovery and water cut stage need long time to recover oil and it is only reach 34% of recovery. Reaction time(as shown by soaking) for chemical imbibition give significant improvement in recovery, shown by sharp incremental of recovery as amount other 34% only by 1 Pore volume chemical injection.

Field implementation result for chemical injection shown significant result for reducing watercut from 7% until 20% and incremental oil production increasing by reducing watercut. The other reservoir also shown significant improvement that watercut drop from 94% become 77% with increamental oil production 9 m3 per day.

SPE PAPER 179851 MS-Reservoir in Oman (Presented in SPE international EOR presentation Muscat, Oman 2016). (Extreme Carbonate Oil)

  1. RSummary of this Result come from injection 600 drums of Chemical Modifier along 5 month
  2. The continous injection dedicated in E Zone with result and behavior as follow:
      • STOIIP = 2,96 x 10⁶ bbl
      • PV = 5,51 x 10⁶ bbl
      • Oil Gain = 29.000 bbl
  3. Recovery Factor achieved during the Trial (Oil Gain / STOIIP) = 29,000 bbl / 2.96 x 10⁶ bbl = 0.98%
  4. Volume injected during trial 85228 bbl or Fraction Water in PV = 85228 bbl / 5.51 x 10 ⁶ bbl = 0.0155 PV
  5. Recovery Factor for 1 PV injection = 0.98% / 0.0155 = 63%
  6. Compare to Lab Result 17% for 1 PV injection
  7. 1PV = 5.51 x 10 ⁶ / 572 (injection rate per day at DL-132) = 26 years 5 months (req. to achieve a recovery factor of 63%).
  8. This Limited Continous Injection is Economically Feasible to Deliver for Full Scale injection in the Low Oil Price.

Bentayan Field (SPE paper 154763 PP, Presented in SPE international EOR presentation Muscat, Oman 2012

The Bentayan field, located on the northeast flank of the South Sumatra basin. In 1932, a discovery well encountered productive upper Talang Akar sandstones which yielded 800 BOPD of paraffinic based crude. Bentayan field is considered as a heavy oil reservoir, and so far only 14% of Bentayan oil reserve has been produced. This field is considered as a mature field where all production wells have been producing with high water cut, all conventional efforts to improve oil production would be difficult to success. Since 80 years of the discovery, reservoir pressure of Bentayan field has declined from 1696 psi to about 1035 psi, and oil production has also declined significantly. Implementing chemical EOR, is the best way to increase oil production. In this case, a special chemical treatment had been implemented in this field using huff n puff technique. Since, the reservoir is under strong water drive, the injection of SEMAR can also improve oil production of other surrounding wells nearby. Four (4) production wells in Bentayan Field were selected for huff and puff wells. Oil production from BN-50 and BN-77 increased after several days of the production from 6 BOPD to 97 BOPD for BN-50 and 10 BOPD to 15 BOPD for BN-77.
